- It is imperative to be able to identify the components of an air brake system; proper operation of the brakes and detection of any irregular sounds or air leaks are crucial skills; performing basic assessments of the air system is necessary; measuring the thickness of linings is an important task; adjusting the brakes should be done accurately; carrying out routine maintenance must include the air brake sections; precise measurement of drums, rotors, and cam bushings should be conducted; brake repairs are to be done following (BA298) after receiving suitable training
- Brakes-Hydraulic: Road test for proper operation; Make visual inspections for leaks; Check park brake operation; Check fluid level; Measure lining thickness; Adjust service brakes; Perform brake repairs per (BH298) once trained and qualified; Adjust park brakes
- Recognize the specific make and model of the equipment
- Charging Systems (electrical): Visually inspect batteries; Clean connections; Check condition of belts; Test batteries; Check alternator mounting and pulley; Replace and adjust belts; Perform basic charging system check
- Properly grease the throw-out bearing, linkage, shafts, and cables of the clutch mechanism, recognizing the suitable engagement of the clutch and understanding the function of the clutch brake
- Routine Maintenance of Cooling Systems: Monitor and regulate coolant levels as required; visually inspect the system for leaks or damages; perform basic repairs such as hose replacements, fan shroud fixes, or sealing leaky connections; understand the characteristics and specifications of various types of permanent antifreeze; utilize tools like refractometers and pressure testers for assessment; conduct system flushing and refilling operations
- Maintenance tasks such as cleansing the battery cables, connections, and starter are necessary to ensure the efficient operation of the Cranking System
- The installation or substitution of accessories like heated mirrors, fans, and spotlights is also within the scope of services offered
- Examine the drive axle housings for potential leaks, then carry out an oil and filter change if it proves to be essential, in addition to clearing out any debris from the breathers
- Inspection of driveline components for wear or damage should be accompanied by proper lubrication

- Ensure the proper functioning of fuel lines, pickup tubes, and return lines in gas and diesel fuel systems by conducting thorough integrity checks
- Routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning doser injectors, servicing ArvinMeritor unitized hubs, examining Lece Neville alternator brushes, and ensuring the modulator system operates correctly, are all vital components of maintaining the overall health and efficiency of the vehicle
- Maintenance tasks include greasing the grease fittings, inspecting and adjusting the fluid levels, and aligning the toe appropriately. Check all steering parts for wear and tear and align the trailer axle as needed. Adust the wheel bearings and replace the wheel seal if necessary
- Suspension-Chassis and Cab: Identify makes and models; Identify normal operation; Identify and repair minor air leaks; Identify malfunctions of basic nature, broken springs, excessive wear on bushings, etc
- Recognize any tires that show signs of damage or wear and tear requiring immediate attention
- Grease the fifth wheel plate and slider mechanism within the Vehicle Coupling System (PM) and test the operation of the slider mechanism
- Make use of the core functions embedded in the Shop Management System and digital documentation offered. Conduct tasks aligning with the stipulations outlined by federal/provincial laws and the corporate guidelines encompassing safety and DOT regulations.
